Is it still a 'holiday'?

I am intrigued with the true meaning of a holiday. maybe in the earlier years, say in the 20th century where life is simpler, holidays are enjoyable with no worries but just pure enjoyment of everything.
Nowadays, everyone is tightening themselves up with work and worries over their finances..
I feel the word 'holiday' is starting to lose its true meaning especially in my context as a student where i have to either do research on or try to complete the several projects i have. time to enjoy during the holidays? i will rate it as nil even if there are sparse intervals to 'enjoy' during my holiday..
If you were to realise the human mentality in our asian society is to make sure that we do not lose out to the rest in terms of work; progress of work, research etc. it is that persistent attitude we hold that can prove to undermine the true meaning of periods like 'holidays'.. nobody will let loose of their pusuit to be the best they can be or the achiever they desire to be even if it means to sacrifice enjoyment for satisfaction.. i hope you can see the trade-off going on, because this is happening all over.. When will we start to realise the need for a balance in what we do? If everybody around us will realise this need, maybe we can all have a true holiday soon with no workload on our back..
My laptop is currently under repair for a failed hard disk and i am left with no choice but to surf the internet using either my PS3 or my Omnia.. it takes patience to surf the net with these two device... it really does.. especially when you have to navigate up, down, left, right with either a controller or a stylus...
